Tell us a bit about your job at the King’s Head Theatre?
I’m the Marketing and Programme Assistant, so I support the Marketing and Programming Manager in all manner of things such as copywriting, managing our blog and liaising with visiting companies.
What’s the best piece of theatre you’ve ever seen?
A production of the Shipment when I was on my year abroad in upstate New York. It was, and still probably is, the most provocative production about race that I have seen. The discomfort that the audience felt, regardless of race, was so refreshing, as it allowed the message to be driven home without alienating the audience and the different mediums used of minstrelsy, a stylised film, and a naturalistic end scene showed stereotypes that have saturated our media and allowed them to be satired excellently.
In an alternate universe, what would your ideal job be?
It would definitely be a neurosurgeon, I have watched far too much Grey’s Anatomy…
The King’s Head Theatre has a stupendous ice cream selection… what’s your favourite flavour?
Why does theatre matter?
Theatre takes the pressing issues of our day and returns it to you in a entertaining way, that could be completely different from your viewpoint. You can take something as horrible/inspiring as the #MeToo movement, and create a piece of art that can speak to so many people on so many levels. I love the liveness of theatre too; you are in a room with these people who can break your heart or make you laugh hysterically and they’re right there! Coming out of a good piece of theatre is one of the best feelings because it can make you feel like anything and everything is possible.
