What Do You Do? Marketing and Programme Assistant - Germma Orleans-Thompson

January 29, 2019

How long have you been working at the King's Head Theatre and what is your job title?

I am the Marketing and Programme Assistant and I have been at the King's Head Theatre for 5 months next week.

What does a Marketing and Programme Assistant do on a day to day basis?

A lot! There's no 'typical' day, as I'm sure is true for most jobs, but I do have set tasks that I need to do each week. I build two 'SOLUS' emails each week, promoting one particular show to targeted bookers and am also responsible for the King's Head Theatre's social media accounts on Twitter '@KingsHeadThtr', Facebook 'King's Head Theatre' and Instagram 'kingsheadtheatre". I also make sure all the print in the venue is up to date, and arranged nicely. On the programming side,  I draft contracts for all visiting companies and assist my manager with looking for new work. Alongside this, I support the Marketing and Programming Manager and the Senior Producer in any tasks that they need me to!

Why did you decide to apply for a job at the King's Head Theatre?

I knew that I wanted my next role to be at a theatre that was actively trying to change the industry in all ways. The King's Head Theatre's commitment to fair pay for all people on and off stage, and the innovation of opera here was something that I knew I wanted to be part of.

What is your favourite part of the job?

I love being able to try out different tasks as part of my job. Because my role is a training role, I have been able to shadow Artistic Director Adam Spreadbury-Maher rehearsing for his West End transfer of Coming Clean and I have also been able to expand my horizons about what type of theatre I am interested in.

What is one thing that you have learnt from your role?

How to write copy - it's not as easy as I thought it would be...

What has been your favourite show so far from your time at the King's Head Theatre?

Ooooh, I really loved Beauty and The Beast: A Musical Parody by Fat Rascal Theatre, but I also got to experience my first opera in La Traviata, so I can't choose!

And finally, have you tried all 11 flavours of ice cream that the King's Head Theatre sells?

No, it is my mission to do so, but alas, I am a creature of habit and Gold Medal Vanilla always calls my name...

~

The King's Head Theatre's next opera is Carmen running from Wednesday 6 February - Saturday 9 March.
